ABOUT US
Mission
To encourage and support the interest of its members in garden, landscape and floral design and maintenance, and to provide service to the community in further beautification of public grounds and support of conservation and natural resources.
Meetings
We hold our meetings October through June on the first Wednesday of the month at various locations. The meeting begins at 9:00 a.m. with coffee and refreshments. Our business meeting begins at 9:30 a.m. and the program runs from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Dues are $50.00 per year.
Civic Projects
Our club is responsible for the plantings and maintenance of the Soldiers’ Memorial year round in downtown Dover. Just prior to Memorial Day, our members plant the Soldiers’ Memorial with colorful red, white and blue flowers to honor the fallen servicemen from Dover.
The Dover Library House Tour takes place every November. Our club is responsible for decorating either the dining room or living room in one of the homes on the House Tour. The theme could be either colorful autumn foliage or Christmas time in Dover.
Just before Mother’s Day and Thanksgiving, our club visits a local nursing home. At that time, we assist the residents in putting together small flower arrangements, which they can use to brighten their rooms.
With the assistance and materials provided by our members, science classes at the Dover-Sherborn Middle School plants seeds in pots and nurture the seedlings until they are fully-grown. The students then enter their plants in the Massachusetts Horticultural Society’s Flower Show. Over the years, these students have won many awards.
