Community Service
The Lincoln Garden Club considers service a corner-stone of its programs and prides itself on its many projects.
Station Park
The small park on Lincoln Road opposite the mall and owned by the Town has been cared for and enhanced by the Club since 1972. The park includes flowering trees, shrubs and perennials that are maintained by members at bi-weekly work sessions during the growing season.
Mission for Cheer
Twice a year, in December and in the spring, members arrange and deliver flowers and plants to senior citizens who are ill, confined to their homes or have recently lost a family member.
Watering Troughs
Club members maintain seasonal plantings and decorations in the old watering troughs located at five corners and at the intersection of Codman and Lincoln Roads.
Other Services Around Town
Members of the Club provide flower arrangements and seasonal plant material for the circulation desk at the library every week of the year.
They also decorate the Pierce House and Bemis Hall at the holiday season. In addition, the Club has donated several benches and trash barrels for Pierce Park.
Conservation & Environment
The Club has been working with other conservation organizations on issues such as the identification and control of invasive plant species. Currently members are involved in a project aimed at increasing awareness of the importance of Lincoln’s roadsides. The Club recently sponsored town-wide workshops on stone wall maintenance and construction and on pruning techniques.
Biennial Plant Sale
On alternate years the Club holds a plant sale in May at which the public is able to purchase plants from members’ gardens as well as annuals and vegetable seedlings. Members of the Club are on hand to give advice and share gardening tips.
